A little about me...
“Harry North is a singer-songwriter of exceptional warmth and power.
In his voice there are echoes of David Gray and John Martyn, whilst
his guitar playing brings Nick Drake's fingerpicking into territory
explored by Scott Mathews.
He sings songs of love, loss, life and longing.
Its a heady brew. Watch this space!”
(Davey Ray Moore)
I am the grandson of a Geordie turned Cornish Fisherman and have been fortunate to have been writing and singing my songs along the rocky shores of the Jurassic Coast since I was a lad.
I am hopelessly hooked on writing songs that tell a story and I have been ever since I first listened to my grandfather tell elaborate tales of his working class life whilst mackerel fishing in the bay off his wooden boat. It’s not just the urge to continue my grandfathers talent of telling stories that keeps me writing, its the landscape in which I live and the small moments in time that words fail to tell.
Christmas 2019 will be extra special as I am planning to release my first album of songs, called ‘Island in the Ocean’, that will be a culmination of treasured and heart pumping moments that have forged me into the shape I am.
I have previously supported acts including The Martin Harley Band and Ed Sheeran and my songwriting style respectfully tilts a hat towards the likes of Mark Knofler, Chris Martin and Ed Sheeran.
Seeking out a simpler way of life in 2013 I retreated to the shores of New South Wales in Australia. In between regular surfing trips a winter spent down under gave me space and time to write. I have fond memories of writing until the early hours and making crude recordings using my old knackered phone. As a result songs like 'Hold On', 'Be true to yourself' and 'Close to me' came to pass. I returned with a pocket full of songs and the burning want to write my first album.
Art class at school was a favorite of mine and was also the beginning of my love of creating impressions of the landscapes Dorset has to offer. My soon to be released Acoustic Composition album called ‘Old Harry Rocks‘ will be made up of Acoustic Guitar compositions that are influenced by Dorset Landscapes and will feature compositions called and inspired by these special places including ‘Portland Bill’, ‘Anvil Point Lighthouse’ & ‘West Bay Beach’.
My performances are a cocktail of songs from both my songwriting album (Island in the Ocean) & compositions from my acoustic album (Old Harry Rocks). Keep your eyes peeled for both these albums to be on sale from the website and on all major music platforms in December 2019 - the perfect christmas present!
